BEHIND SPRING RELEASE, "SOMETHIN’ ELSE"
Texas Country Star Best Band Winner Easy to Listen to
(Austin, TX) — 10 City Run is earning airplay and video spins on radio, television and the Web with tunes from its debut release on Universal South Records, SOMETHIN’ ELSE.
The first single from SOMETHIN’ ELSE, the dark but engaging “City of Angels (Dumb Ol’ Country Boy),” is being spun by DJs at stations across the Lone Star State and has earned a spot on The Texas Music Chart.
The “City of Angels” video, shot at the Bandera County Jail, premiered June 1 on cable’s Country Music Television “Top Twenty Countdown”and is airing on CMT’s “Pure Country.” It’s easy to view, too, on CMT.com as well as the band’s www.10cityrun.com.
“City of Angels” laments the meeting of a “dumb ol’ country boy” and a girl with an L.A. mindset — and does so with classic country musicianship, surprising lyrics and lead singer-bassist-keyboardist Hans Frank’s gruff, punchy vocals.
“... Unstoppable riffs, a rock-solid hit, in the hillbilly style and sound of Buck Owens and The Derailers, with the heart of Waylon Jennings, 10 City Run’s ‘City Of Angels (Dumb Ol’ Country Boy)’ is one of the most requested songs we play,” says DJ Brett Dillon, KHYI-Dallas.
The song is the first track on the CD and one of four classic-sounding, smartly twisted originals on the release written or co-written by band front man Frank, who formed the group to perform songs from material he’d used in a performance theater piece that ran for two years in Austin.
The rest of the emphatic and well-played SOMETHIN’ ELSE, produced by John Beland (formerly of The Flying Burrito Bros.), includes a cover of Doug Sahm’s typically irreverent (yet politically timely) “Juan Mendoza.”
