TWO TONS OF STEEL,
STILL CELEBRATING CD/DVD RELEASE,
PLAYS HOUSTON SHOW

Austin, TX — Dynamic country-billy combo Two Tons of Steel keeps on celebrating the June release of its hip, hyper CD-plus-DVD, TWO TON TUESDAY LIVE! FROM GRUENE HALL (Palo Duro Records, June 6), by playing a show at Houston’s Continental Club.

Two Tons plays at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, September 23, at The Continental Club, 3700 Main St. in Houston. Cover is $10; information: 713.529.9899.

Response to the CD/DVD — which documents (both aurally and visually) the band’s 11-years-running summer concert series in the oldest dance hall in Texas and won an independent film festival award just after its release – has been as vociferous as the band’s version of “Unglued” on the release and as super-charged as the shows that draw 12,000 fans annually.

Like this, from the September–October issue of No Depression magazine: The CD/DVD “reveals Two Tons of Steel to be one of the strongest, rocked-up, honky-tonkin’ bands around now. They get everybody two-stepping and jitterbugging away at the old Texas dance hall in this live, hard-driving show. Dale Watson can be spotted among the dancers if you watch closely. Their brand of honky-tonk includes a twangy take on The Ramones’ ‘I Wanna Be Sedated,’ but there are no retro affectations or joking around when these guys turn to outright country.”

The guys that created a new Texas music, a new retro sound of their own, that combines traditional rockabilly and a heady rock ’n’ roll beat are Kevin Geil, front man, lead vocalist and dance-antic master; Dennis Fallon on electric guitar and harmonica; Ric Ramirez on upright bass and harmony vocals; Chris Dodds on drums and harmony vocals; and Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Famer Denny Mathis, also on Dobro.

In the midst of constant touring that started before the release of LIVE! FROM GRUENE HALL, currently deep in the heart of the Lone Star State, Two Tons of Steel will travel to southeastern Norway for the Lillehammer Rhythm & Roots Festival.

In the meantime, the band’s Texas tour includes:

Friday, September 1, Oak Point Amphitheater, Plano
Saturday, September 16, Nelson City Dance Hall, Boerne
Friday, September 22, The Broken Spoke, Austin
Saturday, September 23, The Continental Club, Houston
