ROOTS-POP GINN SISTERS
DELIVERS JUICY ‘BLOOD ORANGES’
TO ANN ARBOR
Stunning Vocals Cap Collection of Flavorful Tunes
AUSTIN, Texas — The Ginn Sisters (pronounce with a hard G), the Americana sister band, takes its sweet and spicy sound to The Ark in Ann Arbor in May for a show to support its second album, BLOOD ORANGES (Sweetbird Records, June 2006), which spent 12 weeks on the national Americana/R&R chart and has been named one of the chart’s Top 100 Albums of 2006.
The band, featuring the close-order harmonies and songwriting and instrumental skills of Texans Tiffani and Brit Ginn, plays its brand of lace-edged roots music — filled with knowing lyrics and flavored with down-home style, sometimes a rock groove and even a little pop — at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at The Ark, 316 S. Main in Ann Arbor. Cover: Bring a non-perishable food item for Food Gatherer; Information: 734.761.1800.
The Ann Arbor date is just one stop on The Ginn Sisters’ current tour, a sweep of club dates from Maryland to Michigan to Missouri, to please and amaze audiences with the wide vocals and instrumental intricacies in songs like “Down the Drain,” about the dangers of excess; “Too Cool to Cry,” with its magical Latin beat and Brit’s melodica; and “Broken Spirit,” a surprisingly wise anthem banning negativity.
Nashville Scene enthused over the “instantly memorable songs” of BLOOD ORANGES, saying the album “only hints at the onstage charisma and knockabout charm” that The Ginn Sisters demonstrated earlier this year during an appearance on Douglas Corner’s “Americana Tonight.”
Sisters Tiffani and Brit Ginn are currently working on new material, including a song called “Heart & Bones” (available at www.mcguckinpr.com). When they’re home between tours, they work in Momma’s pizza parlor in their parents’ historical Von Minden Hotel in Schulenburg.
