THE GOUGERS ADDED TO AMA SHOWCASE LIST
Alt-Country Quartet Also to Play
All-Day BBQ During Conference in Nashville
AUSTIN, Texas — Alt-country four-piece band The Gougers (formerly The Sidehill Gougers) will play an official showcase at the 8th Annual Americana Music Association Conference in Nashville in addition to two other appearances.
The Gougers play their 45-minute showcase at 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, at The Mercy Lounge, 1 Cannery Row off 8th Avenue South. Information: 615.248.9494. They will also play later that night: 11 p.m. at Mark Wehner’s Americana Tonight at Douglas Corner Café, 2106 8th Ave. South, information: 615.298.1688.
The band also plays Saturday, November 3 (rain or shine), during the Official AMA All-Day BBQ at The Basement, 1604 8th Ave. South. The BBQ is free; information: 615.254.8006, www.thebasementnashville.com.
The Gougers bring to Nashville cuts from their just-released album, A LONG DAY FOR THE WEATHERVANE (The Weathervane Records; October 18), which is currently at #28 on the Americana chart. At the band’s live shows across Texas, the tracks are bringing down the house, too. The Austin Chronicle called its set at the inaugural Big State Festival two weeks ago the “best surprise of the weekend … with Jamie Wilson’s gentle twang matching Shane Walker’s darker sneer.”
By their own admission, The Gougers’ new album captures their evolution from acoustic to an edgier, electric sound. Listeners get smart story-poem songs with the personal, poignant lyrics Wilson and Walker are known for and an earful of insight into the band.
