AUSTIN MAYOR SHOWS SUPPORT FOR
HEALTH ALLIANCE FOR AUSTIN MUSICIANS
AT AUSTIN CITY LIMITS MUSIC FESTIVAL
(Austin, TX) -- During this weekend's Austin City Limits
Music Festival at Zilker Park, one of the booths
distributing information and giveaways to concert fans will
be that of the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM),
the new and innovative program to assist the city's
uninsured and low-income professional musicians.
Says Austin Mayor Will Wynn: "Musicians are a vital part of
our community, our culture and our quality of life. It is
important to recognize that to keep Austin the vibrant, cool
city that it is, we must find more creative ways to support
our local musicians. I am proud of the Health Alliance for
Austin Musicians and its work to provide access to health
care to our musicians. I know Central Texans and ACL
festival attendees will support HAAM's efforts by visiting
its booth at this weekend's festival and learning more about
HAAM."
The coalition that debuted in mid-April 2005 is SETON
Healthcare Network providing low-cost primary health care
services with emphasis on wellness and prevention, St.
David's Foundation providing free basic and preventive
dental care, and SIMS Foundation providing low-cost mental
health counseling. In just six months, more than 350 of
Austin's talented and hard-working musicians have enrolled
in HAAM.
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians is one of five
organizations to be featured in the community outreach area
of the Festival.
