SONGBIRDS FROM DOWN UNDER,
KARA GRAINGER & JACKIE BRISTOW,
TO SHOWCASE AT LA’S HOTEL CAFE

Artists' Compelling Songwriting, Unique Styles Land Their Music in Starbucks

AUSTIN, Texas — Singer-songwriters Kara Grainger with her sharp guitar and the choicely voiced Jackie Bristow will demonstrate their skills for a double showcase in June in their new hometown of LA — just as cuts by both artists join in-store airplay in Starbucks coffee stores across Australia.

Starting with complimentary drinks until 7 p.m., the special event by Craving Records features Grainger at 7 p.m. and Bristow, with Australian guitar master Mark Punch, at 8 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at Hotel Café, 1623 1/2 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Los Angeles. Cover is $7; information: 323.461.2040, www.hotelcafe.com.

Both Grainger's and Bristow's sets will feature cuts from their new projects — bold and sassy to mellow and liquid — recorded through Sydney-based independent label Craving Records, which is seeking U.S. licensing, distribution and more for both artists.

Songs from both Grainger’s GRAND AND GREEN RIVER and Bristow’s CRAZY LOVE were chosen for in-store music in the approximately 96 Starbucks shops across Australia, where Grainger was born and in whose jazz and blues club she got her start playing the guitar and where Bristow cut her first publishing deal. Both tour Down Under extensively.

In addition, Grainger’s music is being heard in the United States in 3,000 Starbucks’ locations as part of a highlighted in-store broadcast called “Contemporary Grind.”

Grainger's blues-roots-pop songs about life's pain and pleasures are spiced with her lead guitar work on acoustic, electric and slide. She tours globally — having just wrapped shows in Australia with Blue Note artist Amos Lee, with whom she co-wrote and recorded a duet, “On My Way,” for her new project — shares the stage with the likes of Eric Johnson, and has upcoming shows in Seattle and Austin.

Bristow’s CRAZY LOVE demonstrates her sensual and seductive vocals and smart folk-pop spin on love songs and life lessons that sparkle with soul, authenticity and emotion, especially “The World is Turning,” “Innocence” and the title track. She spent the spring showcasing at Canadian Music Week and South By Southwest Music Fest in Austin.

She's toured with some of the biggest names to criss-cross Australia, supporting Art Garfunkel and Daniel Lanois, and earlier this year opened for Madeleine Peyroux's tour of New Zealand. Upcoming performances include shows in LA, Seattle and Nashville.

Interview times for both artists are available as well as press kits.
