SOULFUL SINGER-GUITARIST KARA GRAINGER
TO PLAY AUSTIN ALBUM RELEASE SHOW
AT SAXON PUB
GRAND AND GREEN RIVER: Hypnotic Songs & Guitar
Grooves Flow from Debut Album
AUSTIN, Texas - Kara Grainger, who punctuates her soulful songs
with hot guitar licks and vocals described both as honey-sweet
and seductive, will play Austin's Saxon Pub to mark the American
release of her debut album, GRAND AND GREEN RIVER (Craving Records;
August 19), which captures her unique - and potent - jazz-blues-modern
country mix.
Grainger and her band play at 11 p.m. Friday, August 22, at Saxon
Pub, 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. Cover is $10; information: 512.835.5997.
Earlier in the day, from 1 to 3 p.m., Grainger makes an in-store
appearance at Waterloo Records at Austin-Bergstrom International
Airport to perform several cuts from the album.
Grainger's GRAND AND GREEN RIVER "is indeed rich, full and lush
… chock full of the blues, a slight pop undertone, all overlaid
with her haunting voice - a debut to be proud of," said Rhythms,
the monthly roots-music magazine of Australia, where she was touring
with fellow Australian Jeff Lang when the album was released in
May.
Grainger sings on the album about love, lost and found, and loss,
regretted and unatoned, in such originals as "Bring Me Back,"
"On My Way" and "Sky is Falling" - each featuring her emotive
vocals and the lead electric, slide and acoustic guitar work that
evokes audience acclaim. The classic-car video of "Bring Me Back"
debuted at #42 on the CMC (Country Music Channel) Video
Chart.
Grainger was born in Australia and started singing and playing
guitar while in high school in the rock and blues clubs of a Sydney
suburb (including The Basement, where she's scheduled to play
this September). First with Papa Lips and then the renamed band
Grainger with her brother, Mitch, she toured the island continent's
clubs and music festivals. On her own, she's toured with musical
greats like guitarist Eric Johnson, who would play on GRAND AND
GREEN RIVER, which she recorded in Los Angeles.
Kara Grainger’s upcoming shows include:
July 19, Saxon Pub, Austin
July 26, Lorraine’s, Marble Falls, Texas
August 22, Saxon Pub, Austin (ALBUM RELEASE SHOW)
August 26-31, National Country Music Muster, Australia
September 4, The Basement, Circular Quay, Sydney (w/ Paul Greene)
Interview times are available as well as press kits.
