Australia-Born Guitarist Lands Her Music in Starbucks,
Chosen to Play at Austin City Limits Music Festival

AUSTIN, Texas — Kara Grainger and her fiery bluesy guitar, backed by her band, return to Nashville to play two dates as the hot summer ends.

Grainger takes the stage at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, for an “Australian Showcase” with Simon Bruce at 3rd & Lindsley, 816 3rd Ave. South; cover is $7 (information: 615.259.9891). She plays a free show at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 2, at The Bluebird Café, 4104 Hillsboro Pike; information: 615.383.1461.

Grainger’s live show will feature cuts from her latest project, GRAND AND GREEN RIVER — spiced with her distinctive vocals and lead guitar work on acoustic, electric and slide — that she recorded through Sydney-based independent label Craving Records.

Two more songs from the recording — her love and loss anthem, “Secret Soul,” and “Cannot Be Denied,” with its sweet, simple sentiment about giving in to love and nature — have been added to the Starbucks U.S. in-store music broadcast called “Contemporary Grind” that already features several of the album’s tracks. They’ll play in the more than 7,000 Starbucks stores in the United States and in the approximately 100 Starbucks across Australia, where Grainger was born and in whose rock and blues clubs she got her start singing and playing guitar.

On Sunday, September 16, Grainger will play the world-famous Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin: 2:40 p.m. on the BMI Stage.
