New Texas Music Stars Bring Back the ’70s Classics
For Live Recording in Luckenbach Dance Hall

AUSTIN, Texas — The rustic walls of the 120-year-old Luckenbach Dance Hall trembled for two nights in January as new Texas music artists on the roster of Palo Duro Records performed before raucous crowds the songs that put the tiny hamlet in the Texas Hill Country on the map 33 years ago.

Now, the album is due for release on October 24. And those lucky enough to have won tickets to the live recordings, who sang along and stomped for more, as well as lovers of classic Texas music can’t wait.

Texas singer-songwriters and musicians performing such songs as “Up Against the Wall (Redneck Mother),” “London Homesick Blues,” “Sangria Wine,” “Gettin’ By,” “What I Like About Texas,” “Desperados Waiting for a Train” and more were Jimmy LaFave, Cory Morrow, John Arthur Martinez, Gary P. Nunn, Two Tons of Steel, Ed Burleson, Brian Burns, The McKay Brothers, Morrison-Williams, Walt Wilkins, Tommy and Justin Alverson, The Derailers, and Gonzos de Casa.

In Luckenbach in January, the nights were warm, but the recording was hot, eliciting from the audiences loud chorus sing-alongs, punctuating hoots and hollers, and several two-steppers. Songs like the tender “Little Bird” and “Wheel” cooled down audiences and turned them into avid listeners. Out back of the dance hall, clusters of musicians, music journalists and fans did the meeting and greeting, reminisced about the glorious history of Texas music and relived the highlights of the performances just finished inside.

VIVA! TERLINGUA! NUEVO! – SONGS FROM LUCKENBACH TEXAS, co-produced by Walt Wilkins and Tommy Alverson, is the first release in the Palo Duro Records Luckenbach Texas Music Series, through which Palo Duro plans to produce, market and distribute CD and DVD releases, and host special events, to feature Luckenbach and its impact on country music — including the hit that touched millions of people around the world, country music outlaw Jennings’ “Luckenbach Texas (Back to the Basics of Love).”

Palo Duro Records (“Country Music, Texas Spirit”) continues to live up to its original mission, one planted deep in Lone Star soil — to release the best of Texas-made music in a way that reflects the authenticity of its artists — while growing a thoughtful, balanced roster of quality acts. The music it releases is heard on radio stations from Austin to Boston to London and beyond, answering the demand for the Palo Duro sound by music lovers around the world.
