QUEBE SISTERS BAND TO PLAY 2 SHOWCASES
AS PART OF SXSW MUSIC 2008

Quintet Invited to Share its Western Swing, Jazz, Vintage Country
with Festival-Goers from Here to Holland

AUSTIN, Texas — Quebe Sisters Band — the award-winning five-piece combo led by the three voices, three-part harmonies and triple fiddles of Grace, Sophia and Hulda Quebe — will play two showcases during South By Southwest Music Festival 2008 in March in Austin.

Quebe Sisters Band (pronounced kway-bee), which also features the rhythm guitar of Joey McKenzie and Drew Phelps on upright bass, is to play its SXSW Official Showcase at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the South Austin landmark restaurant and music club Jovita’s, 1619 S. First St.

Earlier Saturday, the quintet plays at noon in the SESAC Day Stage Café, part of the SXSW Music Trade Show + Exhibition, being held in the Grand Ballroom of the Austin Convention Center. Information on these two shows and the festival’s entire musical lineup is available at www.sxsw.com/music.

QSB — recently tagged 2007 Group/Duo of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists and named winner of the 2007 Crescendo Award by the Western Music Association — is in the midst of an extensive tour behind its debut album, TIMELESS (FiddleTone Records), with dates scheduled from Texas to Canada through the end of the year.

Classical lyrics and the “warm, rolling charm” of the Quebes’ album provide “universal comfort,” says the John Shelton Ivany Top 21. Tunes from the Sons of the Pioneers standard, “So Long to the Red River Valley,” to Duke Ellington’s “Take the ‘A’ Train” to Spade Cooley’s “Shame on You” to Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell’s “Georgia on My Mind” do the trick, highlighting the band’s astounding technical musicianship and mesmerizing vocals and letting shine through the upbeat spirit and playfulness so obvious onstage.

After SXSW, the band shows its stuff at festivals and fairs across the country including Fort Worth’s Main Street Arts Festival on April 19, the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival (held at Gene Autry’s historical Melody Ranch in California) on April 26-27, the 70th National Folk Festival July 11-13 in Butte, Mont, and the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, with shows every day September 29-October 18.

QSB has been invited again to sing and swing for Texas’ Justin Boots at the annual Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders Meeting on May 3 in Omaha, where last year, CEO Warren Buffett played ukulele and sang with the band and pop-music veteran Jimmy Buffet met the band and proclaimed, “Man, can they play!”
